“Nikki Payne skillfully spins the tale of a well-known Jane Austen classic and makes it entirely her own. Thoughtful, hilarious, and smolderingly steamy.”—Kristina Forest, author of The Partner Plot Two sisters roll up their sleeves to run a dilapidated inn but must learn to work with the locals in this deliciously spicy novel inspired by Sense and Sensibility. There’s never a good time to learn you are your father’s secret child—especially not at the reading of his will. With their father’s affairs laid bare and Nora’s sensible reputation in tatters due to a viral video scandal, she and her free-spirited sister have nothing left but a rustic inn in the middle of nowhere and each other. What’s more, they need to revamp the inn before Labor Day or they lose it all. Nora hasn’t even knocked the traveling dust off last season’s designer boots when she’s confronted with three problems: 1. She really should have watched more HGTV. 2. She hasn’t seen another Black person for miles. 3. A tall, dark stranger has already staked a claim on their property. Native Abenaki eco-tour guide Ennis “Bear” Freeman has seen hapless tourists come and go. When he spots two pampered city girls at his unofficial headquarters, he expects them to catch a flight out of the inhospitable coastal Maine backwoods within a week’s time. But Nora, turns out, is made of sterner stuff. And as she rolls up her sleeves to breathe new life into the inn, she unwittingly reignites a flood of emotions inside of Bear that he had very intentionally suppressed. Their connection is electric, their desire palpable. But Bear’s silence about his mysterious past might turn out to be the one thing that sends Nora packing.

Sex, Lies, and Sensibility by Nikki Payne

Nikki Payne’s newest book, Sex Lies, and Sensibility is the romance book of the season (of my life.)

Sure this may be a Sense and Sensibility retelling, but nothing out there will quite “hit” like Sex, Lies and Sensibility. A vivid and bursting with technicolor romance book that checked all my boxes for an epic romance.

My face when I talk about Sex, Lies, and Sensibility by Nikki Payne

Quick intro

We are introduced to Nora and Yanne, two sisters that we soon discover are daughters of a rich tycoon that has just passed. But, as a reader we find out they are the illegitimate children of tycoon. In the reading of the will, they find out they inherited a house in Maine. Huge mansion that could be flipped, made into a cozy B&B, and made into a bigger profit.

Both Nora and Yanne arrive in Maine and are met with LOTS of nature, a run down mansion, and not only that, a group of people touring the rinky-dink habitation. (A ghost tour!) The tour being led by, Ennis, may my grey sweatpants loving heart take a breather for a sec.

Ennis a local and indigenous hottie in the town, has been running his own local hiking tour for years and is not so happy that these two sisters ruining his tour. Fret not, they all come to an agreement and become “co-workers” soon enough.

As months go by, Nora and Yanne are on deadline to turn the place into a successful B&B, with clientele and bookings. Lots of pressure! In between renovations both Nora and Ennis CANNOT STOP THEIR CHEMISTRY from growing into something more.

They just cannot be stopped

The magic of Sex, Lies and Sensibility is in EACH AND EVERY SHARED MOMENT BETWEEN Ennis AND Nora. Their moments weigh so heavily on page because they both harbor a huge secret in which they both think will ruin their friendship and reputation. With each passage of their interactions. Like partnering to go on runs early in the morning, or Ennis bringing Nora with him on errands, they’re very obvious love grows deeper and stronger.

So much love and longing that my heart split into a million pieces and then got glued back together. Nikki Payne so carefully crafted such in-depth characters. Everyone on the page speaking, felt real and multi dimensional. The sensitivity to the native Wabanaki tribe and culture only enhanced my experience as I swooned reading Sex, Lies, and Sensibility.

Read Sex, Lies, and Sensibility by Nikki Payne if you love: Laugh out loud moments, lively characters, sexual tension that makes you fan yourself, deep romance that makes you weak in the knees, steamy scenes that almost make your eyes pop out of your head.
