Forrest Winters isn’t just a federal fire marshal; he’s a thorn in Ranger Sierra Betts’s side. The way he swings his big axe, fixes her with his chameleon gray eyes, and talks about his jurisdiction has a way of breaking her concentration. He has a way of showing up everywhere he doesn’t belong, including Greenbrier Ranger Station. And he really needs to quit stealing her bacon bites.

When a series of suspicious fires, an underhanded co-worker, and a cagey Parks Police Chief threaten her job and the park itself, Sierra grudgingly agrees to partner with Forrest. Their side investigation may be her best shot at preventing the framing of an innocent man. But can his firefighting expertise and her detective skills lead them to the real arsonist before Forrest breaks her with his charm?

'Forrest for the Trees' is a full-length contemporary romance, can be read as a standalone and is book #1 in the Green Valley Heroes series, Green Valley Chronicles, Penny Reid Book Universe.

“You may have everyone else tricked into thinking you’re some squeaky-clean, golden-girl rule-follower, but I’ve got your number, Ranger Betts”

Forrest for the Trees by Kilby Blades is the first standalone romance in a brand new series set in Green Valley in the Smartypants Romance lineup of stellar stories. This first book in the Green Valley Heroes is an utterly unputdownable enemies to lovers, workplace romance with a “whodunit” mystery that kept me glued to my e-reader for unhealthy periods of time.

I’ve wracked my brain for a less cliched way to say this but couldn’t come up with anything so here it is— Sierra Betts is fierce. She’s without a doubt the person you want on your side always, the friend you’ll have when you think you have no one, and one extremely smart and often underestimated lady. I could not get enough of the way Kilby Blades wove Sierra’s battle within the Greenbriar Ranger Station hierarchy and juxtaposed it with her budding, and definitely begrudging working relationship with Forrest Winters into something more personal.

“Forrest Winters didn’t just kiss with his lips—he kissed with his whole body, holding her in a way that pressed them together, somehow, from head to toe.”

Forrest Winters (yes those Winters) reminds me of the perfect male archetypes. He’s strong, smart, but not smug or arrogant. He knows what he wants but has the brains and cunning to know how to get what he wants without causing a mess…most times. I loved his unabashed pursuit of Sierra. And even though he had one moment where I wanted to shake my fist at him, overall, he truly is one of those standout male characters for me.

This is also my first book by Kilby Blades and I can assure you that it will not be my last. I am in awe at the peppering of details throughout the book that cinch up neatly into a perfectly tied up ending. The build-up of the plot, the setting, and the introduction to the characters were not overly done, and truly, I would have enjoyed every word if Forrest for the Trees was double the length. Between the romance and the overall plot, you will not be able to put this book down.

Forrest for the Trees is available today, September 28th! Consider this your recommendation to grab yourselves a copy of one of the most delightful books of the year!
