Brittainy Cherry’s The Gravity of Us is emotional and intense, highlighting how complex loving is, whether that love is romantic, familial, or a friendship.
The story in The Gravity Us, told from dual perspectives, follows Lucy, a woman who leads her life with compassion and commitment to the people she loves, and Graham, a generally unhappy, emotionally unavailable, and distant man.
The Gravity of Us gives big beauty and the beast vibes.

Much like the Disney movie, Graham’s journey to redemption can be a difficult one to root for. His cold demeanor and harsh treatment of Lucy make it hard to believe he deserves her kindness and love. On the other hand, Lucy is a shining light in the life of all she loves and supports, in both admirable and heartbreaking ways. Lucy’s selflessness comes at the significant cost of her individuality and personal dreams. However, Cherry does a good job of illustrating Lucy’s motivations for staying close to those who don’t always deserve her loyalty. It’s a bittersweet portrayal of love and loyalty that raises important questions about the balance between selflessness and self-preservation.
Despite my objections to the coupling, The Gravity of Us is beautifully written and captures the rawness and complexity of human emotions and how trauma shapes us.
Despite all of the complications and frustrating personality traits, I rooted for Graham and Lucy. In the end, Graham lets Lucy in and is absolute mush over her, so balance and harmony are restored in my romance world.
While the book delivers a satisfying ending, the love story is controversial. This book will challenge readers to consider the complexities of relationships and the sacrifices we make for the people we love. Though Graham’s redemption may not feel entirely earned, Lucy’s unwavering strength and commitment shine brightly. Her arc is the true heart of the story.
This book is part of The Element Series by Brittainy Cherry but can be read as stand-alone.
