Ace has spent her entire life hiding who she is. First, it was from friends and family who didn't know she was stealing from the rich. Then it was hiding her true self in a prison city under the water. The worst was hiding herself from new friends who helped her destroy Alpha. What she didn't know, was that decision would force her to come into the light.

Maketes has always been the jokester. No one takes him seriously, and if they do, it's only because he was born violent. But then he starts talking with a human through droids, and he finds a kindred spirit in them. When he's given an opportunity to find out who this human really is, he takes it.

But what he finds in that prison city is not just the person he was friends with. He finds a villainous group of people who wish to use him to their advantage, and a woman who captivates his entire soul.

Together, they travel throughout the remains of Gamma, a city long forgotten. And while they search for a key that will change how they see the entire world underneath the ocean, they find themselves growing closer. Soon enough, they realize that perhaps hiding their entire lives has prevented them from experiencing the greatest part of life.

“Perhaps you need a big, strong male to keep you safe.” That’s exactly what she needed. One with abs that flexed under her gaze and biceps that made her want to bite them. What? No!

Emma Hamm’s series just keeps getting better. Echoes of the Tide, her latest installment, is book three in a series that I know will become a comfort read in the years to come. Not only does Echoes in the Tide introduce a new couple, but it also features cameos of the previous two books and hints at what is to come in the final book of the series.

Ace is a misfit. Not only did she help Anya take down a corrupt city, she’s also been chosen as the human who will work with the undine on a task to find a key that holds a significant amount of power (information) to the humans who are left reeling. After being sent to a prison for trying to keep her sister safe, Ace is dealing with a lot of hurt and mistrust as she works on droids to help her cause.

Everything about her called out to him. He was stuck in her siren call and there was no way for him to get out of it.

Maketes is the undine whom everyone loves and adores but no female wants as a mate. His unique coloring is eye-catching and also his downfall. While working with Anya and Daios, Maketes converses with Ace and soon finds out that Ace isn’t some random achromos. She’s a plus-size, curvy woman who is as smart as she is fierce.

While their mission thrusts Ace and Maketes into working relationship, their trust becomes forged with each mishap and every day that they spend together. Survival is key, but their stubbornness keeps them from understanding their heart’s desire. There’s a beautiful emotional aspect to this romance as well. Emma Hamm writes with such distinct heart and clarity that I found myself tearing up during a very important and pivotal scene.

“Because we’re afraid if anyone sees who we really are, that they won’t like us. And what greater wound is there than to show someone who you really are and have them like you even less than the person you made up?”

I absolutely adore Ace and Maketes. Not only are they the perfect set of a mis-matched pair of misfits, but their insecurities are seen as beautiful in the other’s eyes. I might say this with each book, but I think Echoes of the Tide is my new favorite. I loved the overarching plot advancement. Ace and Maketes romances fits perfectly within the world. Readers will even get glimpses of above water and learn more about the elusive depthstriders.

There’s even enough spice for my monster romance loving heart. Echoes of the Tide is truly unputdownable. I found myself reading pages at a time whenever I could. I even hushed more than one person on my lunch break so I could finish a page or chapter. Echoes of the Tide is a brand new release perfect for fantasy romance or monster romance lovers.
