One pair of shoes could change your life...

Ella
I never imagined how true that statement could be. And yet, one pair of shoes changed everything. After falling into the arms of the most handsome, charming man I'd ever met at a Halloween party—and then into his bed—I never imagined I'd see him again. Certainly didn't expect to find myself paired up with him for the rest of the year as my Sorority's new President. And even though that initial spark between us didn't fade, I couldn't let myself be pulled in by his charms. Couldn't let him win.

Cameron
After she fled into the night, leaving only her shoes behind, I thought that was it. One night, no names—just like we agreed. But I couldn't get her face out of my mind. Couldn't stop wanting to be in her enchanting presence. But all I had was a pair of shoes. Until she showed up, newly appointed President of her sorority. And the catch? She had to work with my fraternity—with me, as President. Even if she seemed determined to hold me at arm's length, I knew I'd do whatever it took to win her over. To make her mine.

The first book in a brand new fairytale inspired spicy college romance series!

One Night. One pair of shoes left on my bedroom floor. One girl I couldn’t get out of my mind.

I grew up with classic Disney princess movies.

Belle, Ariel, and Jasmin raised me. It’s really no wonder that in my adult life I would lean toward fairytale retellings as my favorite genre. Needless to say I was thrilled when I discovered that Jennifer Chipman, one of the attending authors for Romantasy Bookcon ’24, was publishing a Cinderella-style retelling called “A Not So Prince Charming”. You don’t want to know how fast I jumped into her inbox begging for a copy of the new release.

“A Not So Prince Charming” was the perfect book to read on a cold, snowy Saturday morning. I snuggled up with my Kindle and my dog under a blanket, and proceeded to binge the entire story in one day. I couldn’t even put it down long enough to refill my coffee.

Elle and Cam’s meet-cute was a nod to the early 2000’s rom-coms like “Can’t Hardly Wait” and “Sydney White”. The two meet at a fraternity party, their identities unknown to each other at the time, and a casual hook-up happens. Delightfully, Prince Charming falls for the girl who left her shoes on his bedroom floor, and can’t stop thinking about her. Luckily, Ella and Cam run into each other again very shortly after their one night together and find that they have to work together for the good of Greek Life on campus. My giddiness couldn’t be contained.

Their flourishing love story was everything my little romantic heart could have wanted.

“You’re the fairytale I’d always dreamed of but never thought I’d get. The love I’d hoped for.”

There’s something about young love declarations that feels almost magical. I swoon reading their words of affirmation and affection because at the end of the day they don’t feel jaded or over-used. Their love feels refreshing and vulnerable and real, and at the end of the day that’s what a declaration of love should be.

“Cameron–” she protested weakly. “I’ll get you sick.”

“Shh, baby. Just let me take care of you, okay?”

Let me not forget about the steam in this book. Cam and Ella’s sexy vibes are off the chart. If you’re looking for an Open Door romance, look no further. I expected that since this book was a fairytale retelling that it would be a closed-door romance, but I was pleasantly mistaken. The door is wide open.

Final Thoughts

The vibes of sorority/fraternity life, being at school with the rest of their lives to look forward to, developing their goals and dreams – this book has it all. I highly recommend if you’re looking to read a new adult romance, have any inkling to read a hurt/comfort or forbidden romance tropes, or just want to dive into a refreshing love story that’s a tale as old as time, that you pick up “A Not So Prince Charming” by Jennifer Chipman.
