The proprietor of the notorious Monster Ball has cultivated a reputation for hosting the most over-the-top Halloween party for supernaturals.  Each year’s ball is a complete surprise, new location and theme, and better than the last.  It’s the one place that supernaturals of all kinds can come together for a fun, or frolic, or a flaming frothy libation, with the only rule being; murder is not allowed.

Bam Shepherd and her gaggle of “Monster” author aficionados have created a crazy and unique anthology with The Monster Ball.  A carefully orchestrated “playbook” gives each author the basic requirements for their tale: specific details about the venue, the bouncers and bartenders, etc.  The authors then craft a short story around the ball and include interactions with other story characters in the anthology.  The result is a Spooktacular treat for the reader!

The Monster Ball Year 1, especially the interaction of the different characters from different stories, was great! Year 2 is even better!! The authors really ran with this idea and made their crossovers more involved, with some even using these other protagonists in small, supporting rolls in their story.

I enjoy anthologies.  It’s a lot like going to a specialty restaurant and getting their sample platter.  You can get a wide variety of tastes all in one sitting.  The Monster Ball is no exception.  Each author brings a different voice and personality to the compilation.  Some of the characters even get spin-offs from their introductions at the Ball.
