Lightning Kissed, the first book in the new Lucent Series by Lila Felix kicks off with a bang.
I have to give credit where credit is due. I owe getting back into reading to my now 18 year old daughter. Back when she was a tweener I would screen the Young Adult books she wanted to read and then we would have impromptu book clubs. It didn’t take long for her to critically analyze her own books and become a die hard bookworm, think the classics and even War and Peace, and a connoisseur of YA books. To this day we still enjoy sharing our latest YA read so we can have “book talks”.
But, I can’t seem read a YA book without thinking about if it meets my daughter’s standards. Is it well written? Does it have unique story lines and believable characters? And most importantly… does the romance not exceed a PG-13 rating?
Lila Felix nails it in this first book of her new Lucent Series – Lightning Kissed. Lila’s fluid writing style caries you along as she weaves the twists and turns of her captivating story through this less than 300 page book. Strong-willed Colby and adorably sweet Theo are believable characters who have been in love since they first met in elementary school. (Aww) While there is nothing platonic about the sparks that fly when they are together, it is all very appropriate for a YA book.
When Theo realizes he has the same gift, plus some, as Colby – an improbability considering it is passed down to females except for that one male who gets it every 200-300 years – he becomes the key to set things right or unleash the forces of evil. And where does that leave their love? I can’t wait to find out.
Luckily, book two Lightning Sealed is already released for the Kindle so I don’t have wait till April 25, 2016 for the paperback to come out. I’ll have the review for that out shortly.
