When Alexis “Lexi” Moreau caught her husband, Jeff, sampling the sous-chef’s more intimate wares in their New York restaurant, she ran—all the way back to her hometown of St. Helena, California. Six months later, Lexi has no husband and no restaurant. But she does have a three-step plan: First, convert her grandmother’s bakery into her dream bistro. Second, ignore Grandma’s matchmaking attempts. And third, avoid Marco DeLuca, her ex’s commitment-phobic, distractingly sexy best friend.
In school Lexi was off-limits for Marco. After all, she was his buddy’s girl. But she’s still as smart and as gorgeous—and apparently as immune to his charms—as she used to be. Yet the simple fake romance they agree upon to dodge Lexi’s grandmother’s matchmaking plans soon turns deliciously complicated. And the sultry summer might bring together all the right ingredients for Marco to win the only woman he’s ever wanted.
Tastefully Sweet Romance in the Wine Country
or “How I Fell in Love with an Italian in Napa”
Don’t you love it when you’re in need of a “quick fix” read and find yourself smack dab in the middle of a great series you never even knew existed?
I am admittedly not much of a contemporary romance girl, but (thanks again, Kindle Unlimited!) I finished a book and needed something to get me through a lengthy layover. I found an appealing cover (Kissing Under the Mistletoe) and decided to give it a go. SO GLAD I DID!
Author Marina Adair has created an amazing little community full of vivacious young lovers and playful supporting roles. The Grannies remind me of my dearly missed Baba – she would totally have fit in with this fab crew of octagenarians.
It stood to reason that I would leave Gabe DeLuca and move on to the next DeLuca brother, Marco, as he worked through his absolute obsession with his first crush, Lexi, when she moved back into town. “Summer in Napa”, which first published in 2013, immediately snagged me like the first book in the series. I was ready for every season! 😉
As you can guess, Mark is like every guy in one of these books… he wants to stay away, and then he can’t stop thinking about her… and then he screws up… but I bet you can imagine that there’s a HEA. After all, it’s contemporary romance!
Lexi has her own demons to slay, and though the plot itself might be a bit emotionally grabby, the overall storyline and romance sweetly plays out.
If you’re looking for a light romance that will carry you into the depths of wine country and the
everyday dramas of St. Helena, California, I highly recommend “Summer in Napa“. I warn you, though, this is a series, with a spinoff series, and you WILL keep reading! Well done, Marina!
Meg, AKA the Queen Bee (QB) founded LitBuzz in 2015 as a way for her favorite authors to more-readily provide books to a legitimized reviewer. At the time, she never thought it would grow to include a dozen people, hundreds of authors and thousands of reviews.
Most of the time, you can find her with a bulldog at her feet in her home office in Pittsburgh, writing content or developing brand campaigns for clients – or sneaking a quick read of a new release.
She’s married to a great guy, has two amazing grown daughters and more animals than sense. 😉
