From USA Today Bestselling Author Devney Perry comes a small town, surprise pregnancy romance.
Leo Winter loves his life. He works when he needs money. He rides when he craves freedom. He frequents the local bar when he wants a good time. The Tin Gypsies might be a memory, but the bachelor life he lived with his motorcycle club still suits him fine. So when a one-night stand surprises him at a family barbecue and claims she’s pregnant with his child, he’s certain he’s died and gone to hell.
Cassandra Cline took one night off from her structured life. One. And now her wild fling with the local bad boy has turned her life sideways. Her dreams and academic career are circling the drain, and none of it would have happened if she’d stayed far, far away from Leo. Except avoiding him is impossible, especially when she’s forced to move home to Clifton Forge, Montana. And he refuses to leave her side when a series of strange accidents put her and their baby at risk.
But are they accidents? Or is she standing in the middle of a battlefield she doesn’t understand? Her only allies are people she barely knows. And a man who has the potential to steal her heart. If only he’d stop playing the fool.
“My reckless, foolish, unguarded heart was putty in his calloused hands.”
Fallen Jester is the penultimate book in the Tin Gypsy series by Devney Perry. Fallen Jester follows the story of how heartbreaker Leo Winters falls for his lady, Cassandra, his phoenix who sets his world on fire and helps him rise from the ashes into the man he never thought he could be.
Hot off the ending of Noble Prince, Fallen Jester picks up almost immediately where the previous storyline had concluded. Don’t worry readers, all of these books are standalones but they do have a common story arc which ties each of them together. I would like to politely point out at this juncture that Devney Perry might actually be a mastermind of emotional manipulation with how well she evolves Leo’s character from the start to who becomes by the very last page of Fallen Jester.
“This was my Leo, the bossy, seductive man who was in complete control.”
Leo is your typical bad boy with the tragic, tortured past. Basically, he’s catnip for a reader like myself. What’s the scariest scenario to a carefree, no strings attached kind of man? A spitfire woman who really doesn’t need a man…who also happens to be pregnant. Uh oh. All the strings. Leo is the man who believes every bad thing about himself and none of the good. Cassandra is the woman who desperately wants him to believe all the good she sees in him, but she also knows that she can’t be the one to fix a broken man. I respect that so much.
After everything that Cassandra has experienced from recent events, it’s no surprise that she’s easily spooked. But Cass also possesses an amazing heart. Cass is such a pure cinnamon roll of a woman that her first thought is of others instead of herself even as she struggles with PTSD and grapples with becoming a mother as well as giving her heart—piece by piece—to Leo.
“Leo spoke my name like a wish upon the wind.”
This story had me emotionally invested almost immediately. At the start, Leo seems almost unredeemable, and Cass seems too pure and maybe a bit to blind to her own trauma to fully embrace a man like Leo. Fallen Jester isn’t a story about how the characters save each other. No, Fallen Jester is a story about how the strengths of Cass and Leo just so happen to be the exact right catalyst for each of them to realize that they need to work on themselves before they can be successful in following their hearts back to each other.
Fallen Jester wouldn’t be a Tin Gypsy novel without some MC drama. With appearances by all of the previous couples, all the events that happen in Fallen Jester have aligned perfectly to set up the final book, Tin Queen, which will release later this year. Fallen Jester is not your typical surprise baby trope in a small town romance. Devney Perry slays this particular trope and crafted it into her own brand of awesome, which means that I adored it. This is the best kind of story! I say it with every book in this series, but each book gets better, the emotions grow deeper, and the love is sweeter. This is a must-read book and series. Be sure to preorder Fallen Jester which will release on May 18th! And be sure to catch up on the entire series if you haven’t already! Don’t miss this!
