Aria Saint-James has planned the perfect getaway: sweatpants, takeout and two weeks alone with her sister and nephew. Nowhere on that list is wearing a low-cut dress and uncomfortable heels to attend a wedding where she knows neither the bride nor the groom. Toss in her nemesis, Brody Carmichael, and her road trip to Arizona is officially a bust.

But at least there is champagne.

She blames the bubbly for falling into bed with Brody that night. Enemy or no, the billionaire is irresistible in a tux. But after their one-night tryst, Aria has no choice but to cut her vacation short, returning home to escape his devilish smile, vowing never to see Brody again.

Except Aria gets a surprise a few weeks later—she’s pregnant. When he learns that she’s carrying his child, Brody offers Aria the chance of a lifetime. The catch? She has to live under his roof until the baby is born.

Either they’ll kill each other in nine months. Or discover love buried beneath their hate.

‘Because that was for you.’ One sentence. One answer. And the world fell away from my feet. —Forsaken Trail

Devney Perry’s last release of 2020 is Forsaken Trail, book four in the alluring Runaway series. After an abundant year of books, it’s hard to say which Devney Perry book will hit the top of your list, but after reading Forsaken Trail, I have no doubt that by reading it you will end your year on a high note.

I’m fond of books that have strong characters. Aria and Brody are two such characters. Forsaken Trail is the meeting of two behemoths, two giant personalities that clash like titans sparring. You know what happens when two strong-willed people get flung together? Sparks fly, emotions run high, and chemistry sizzles.

I love that Aria is challenged in unexpected ways. Not only is she expecting a new little one, but she also agreed to move to Arizona in order for Brody to help with the pregnancy. What I loved most about this storyline is that despite her hesitations, her move to Arizona is the exact situation that she’s always wanted: being closer with her sister and running the flower shop of her dreams. Seeing Aria lose her prickly thorns and bloom into a happy dessert flower while finding her footing with Brody was beautiful!

I also adored Brody’s character arc. Getting to know his character was half the allure of the story…as it should be! Learning that Brody has been shackled to his inheritance, his company, and his emotional ties to this less-than-deserving family makes his desire to have a genuine connection with his baby and Aria that much more heartfelt. Devney Perry always writes the most fascinating male characters, and I think Brody may be her most nuanced.

The missteps that both Aria and Brody take in their relationship are learning points for the two of them that ultimately bring them closer together. The happily ever after in Forsaken Trail is a sweet one, and one that wraps up both Aria and Brody’s journey perfectly.  With every new release from Devney Perry it becomes harder to pick a favorite. One thing is abundantly clear is that with each new book, Devney delivers more swoon, more heat, and more love. Congrats on this amazing new release, Devney!

Forsaken Trail will be available on December 29th!
