If you’re like me you’ve known about the notoriety surrounding Suzie Samuels, the heroine of My Bare Lady, from prior mentions in Penny Reid’s Winston Brothers series.
Yes, I’m being purposefully vague, because I don’t want to ruin any of the fun that is in this book! That’s because Suzie Samuels is not a woman who should be written off in one snap judgement. Miss Suzie has depth, and strength. She’s got potential. This potential is what UT Professor Clifford Rutledge is betting on. You see, he needs grant money. It just so happens that Suzie has a dream to live beyond her current situation, and her boss,
Occum (one of the Black Demons), is leveraging her (and her dream) in order for Clifford to sign off on a new venture of his own crafting. The twist though, is that the key to Professor Clifford’s grant money lies with Miss Suzie Samuels herself. Ok, I’m being vague again, but that is only because this story is chock full of delicious pretzel twist worthy plot points.
As a lover of musicals and George Bernard Shaw, I knew My Bare Lady was going to be Piper Sheldon’s flavor of the iconic “My Fair Lady” and “Pygmalion” respectively. In case you didn’t know, the other books in the Scorned Women Society Series will also be versions of famous musicals, as Ms. Sheldon has self-professed her love of them.
With all of this being said, I hope I didn’t spoil this amazing book, I was lucky enough to get an ARC from Piper Sheldon, and I’m 
so grateful that I did! One thing I love so much about it, is that it isn’t just about a man who thinks he can make a woman better. Oh no. Clifford (or as Suzie likes to call him, Ford) is the one who learns the big lessons in the book. Not only are both Ford and Suzie such vibrant main characters, but I would like to personally demand books for all of the supporting characters in this book as well (I’m totally serious, Piper Sheldon!). These characters help to elevate the story and enrich it in such a natural way that (if you’re like me) you will be anxiously anticipating the next installment of The Scorned Women Society Series.
