The Fix Series
Contemporary Romance
Abby Thompson’s love life is a disaster. Everyone around her is blissfully falling in love, while she’s busy binge watching anime. The last thing she needs is a walking temptation, in the form of ex-nerd turned dreamy astrophysics professor, Spencer Hill, aka her new client.
It’s her job to find Spencer his dream home, NOT fantasize about a ride on his space rocket. But the sparks between them are impossible to ignore, and soon, Abby is wondering if her losing streak in love could be turning around.
Can she get over her anxiety he’s got her out-brained, and can he let go of the past and the fear that the girl he crushed on in high school is still out of his league?

“I’ve seen thousands of galaxies and you are still more beautiful than any of them.”
I am a SUCKER for an awkward nerd and Spencer Hill fits that bill so perfectly. Carey Heywood’s The Fix series has not let me down yet. Strong, independent heroines. Sexy, sweet heroes, that are a little on the shy side, but a LOT on the alpha side when given the opportunity and the privacy. And Spencer and Abby’s story doesn’t disappoint.
Abby Thompson is the only girl among four brothers. Overbearing. Sometimes caveman-ish. But they are ALWAYS there for her when she needs them. And when her house collapses, she needs them. So not only do you get Spencer and Abby’s story, but you get a little more about each of the couples from previous series, and glimpses of siblings from the books yet to come. Living with four brothers has prepared Abby well for the real world, though. She’s strong and determined and she never gives up. She cries and then she pulls up her big girl panties and gets back to work as one of Woodlake’s best realtors. Her only goal is to make enough money to find a new house, one that checks all her boxes. She’s definitely not expecting to find a guy that does the same.
Spencer Hill is an astrophysicist. Having moved back to Woodlake for a job at the university, he’s staying at his parents’ until he has the time, or motivation, to find his own place. He’s gained both height and muscle mass since high school, but at heart, he’s still the same person. He’s slightly clueless, not very social, and pretty much his only focus is his work. But when he meets up with Abby, on whom he had a massive crush in H.S., in order to look at some real estate, he decides that maybe it’s time for his focus to shift.
This is absolutely a deliciously slow burn. But, oh, it burns so good. Spencer may not be great at understanding subtlety, or using dirty talk, but his swoon factor is off the charts. And Abby, she has such a good heart and I am so glad she found her match in Spencer. The epilogue had me sobbing a flood of happy tears.
This entire series is wonderful. The perfect combo of hot and sweet, with the HEA each couple deserves. I hope Ms. Heywood is furiously writing the next sibling’s story. I can’t get enough.
