He's going to break all her rules...
I'm Dahlia Rossi, dating coach extraordinaire. I know how to land you the man of your dreams. Follow my rules, you'll meet the love of your life and have a gorgeous destination wedding in French Polynesia. Okay, that last one happened just the one time. But my rules work every time. I guarantee it.
1. The man makes the first move. Seems unfair? Life's unfair.
2. Never have sex on the first date. No, not even oral. And hands above the table, please.
3. Play hard to get, but don't make it too hard.
Solid rules, right? I thought they were. But then I met Jack Carraway, an impossibly sexy, frustratingly unpredictable billionaire, and broke them all. Everywhere. In an elevator. On a balcony. Beneath a gazebo, of all places.
Whether I like it or not (spoiler alert: I like it!), Jack is taking me on wild adventure and we're writing a whole new set of rules. Like, always reserve your matching Harry Potter costumes a week in advance; wrestling swans is not as easy as it looks; and sometimes, the man of your dreams pops up in the most unlikely of places and has a really big...boat.
After years of watching couples find love, it may be my turn. But is this spontaneous playboy the real thing, or just a fun detour around my predictable life? All this time I've been following my own rules and going to sleep alone, with nothing but my second slice of princess cake to keep me company.
But the more time I spend with Jack, the more I learn that rules...they're meant to be broken.
Love and laughs all rolled into one wonderful read…
When I picked up this book, I had been having a tough time crawling out of a book hangover. I was just coming out of a stint where I read a number of books that were absolutely wonderful, but unbelievably emotional. Scrolling quickly (and desperately) through my Kindle, I was so thrilled to remember that I had one-clicked
this book. I can always count on Poppy to provide laughs, sarcasm and multiple unexpected elements (zoo animals and beetroot dirt cleanses anyone?) and she definitely didn’t disappoint.
Dahlia Rossi is a rule- oriented matchmaker. Her undiagnosed childhood ADHD has led her to become very list-focused and plan-centric as an adult. She guides her clients, very successfully, to find their soulmates by obeying her rules, but she herself remains single (and unknowingly unhappy) past age 30 (GASP!).
Jack Carraway is one of the few nationwide billionaires under 35. Oh, and he’s smoking hot, to boot. He works hard, but plays hard, too and has no intentions of settling down any time soon. He lives his personal life as he likes and rules mean very little to him.
But, we all know, love doesn’t play by the rules, either. One glance across the room of a Childhood Autism fundraiser and sparks fly. Dahlia breaks her no sex rule and sleeps with the sexy entrepreneur immediately and Jack breaks his no commitments trend and asks to see her again.
There’s an incident with a swan, some Harry Potter shenanigans, skating in a polar bear tank, a zebra on a roof, a mile high club initiation and more. But it’s not all fun and games and wizard spells. Can Dahlia get past Jack’s disregard of the rules and tendencies to act (in over the top ways) before thinking? Can Jack come to realize that while cos-play can be a good time, thinking things through and abiding by the law may, in the long run, actually be better sometimes? Do opposites attract? Are raspberry tarts spiritual conduits? Is it possible for a penguin to help you reconnect with your true love? Only Poppy Dunne has the answers. Oh, wait, you can learn them, too. But only if you one-click Dating the Billionaire.
